Medical and Allied Health Sciences Services Unit

Headed by the Director of Medical & Allied Health Science Services, who is in charge of coordinating all clinical departments within the hospital, organizing and supervising all clinical activities happening at the hospital, assisting the Medical Director in the follow up of medical activity reports in all clinical services, counselling the Director in responding to correspondence and reports regarding provision of health care, as well as actively participating in clinical activities of the medical team. The Medical and Allied Health Sciences Services Unit comprises of the following departments: Anaesthesia Department, headed by the Head Anaesthesia; Technician Biomedical Department, headed by the Chief Biomedical Technician; Laboratory Department, headed by the Head Laboratory; Technician Medical Imaging Department, headed by the Chief Medical Imaging Technologist; Mental Health Department, headed by the Chief Clinical Psychologist; Pharmacy Department, headed by the Chief Pharmacist; Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Department, headed by the Head of IPC; Nutrition Department, headed by the Chief Nutritionist; Physiotherapy Department, headed by the Chief Physiotherapist.

The responsibilities

Director of Medical and Allied Health Sciences is responsible for coordination of all clinical activities within the hospital. Monitoring of implementation of protocols and therapeutic regimens and heading the meeting of Medical staff.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Coordinate medical and allied health clinical units
  • To follow up the recommendations provided by the meetings of clinical activities
  • Monitoring of implementation of protocols and therapeutic regimens
  • Introduce measures to stimulate medical scientific activities
  • Ensure the improvement of the quality of clinical services and health in the Hospital
  • Replace the Director of the Hospital in case of absence or incapacity for medical issues
  • Leads the meetings of medical staff
  • Organize and supervise clinical activities taking place at the hospital
  • Attend meetings of the Management Committee and other hospital activities
  • Ensure compliance with medical ethics and deontology of medical practices
  • Chairing Hospital Drug and therapeutic committee and report on monthly basis
  • Prepare PBF evaluation sessions
  • To ensure that every client of the health services and other beneficiaries are satisfied with the way in which they are received and attended to in the process of care.

Curative activities

  • Organize ward round for all clinical department
  • Grant and authorize transfers, death certificates for inpatients,
  • Provide technical supervision and evaluation of medical staff,
  • Planning of Night and holidays duties,
  • Plan mentorship and technical supervision in health centers, submit progress report of implementation on quarterly basis to Hospital Director General,
  • Prepare and report the meetings minutes of audits of deaths on monthly basis
  • Observe and respect the values & taboos as developed in the internal regulation rules.
  • To provide quality Customer Care service and ensuring satisfaction of clients.
  • To strengthen the hospital’s credibility, enhances its public image, and develop good will.
  • To perform a variety of complex administrative tasks related to promotion and    communication activities.

Health and safety responsibility activities

  • Organize and monitor Health and Safety activities in the Hospital.
  • To ensure compliance with health and safety policy, guidelines and standards in the Health facility.
  • To promote, encourage and maintain an active interest of all hospital Staff on safety and health management and reporting.
  • To provide staff training on how and when to report illness and injury, and how to obtain treatment.
  • To ensure that health and safety issues are discussed, evaluated and recommendations or suggestions made in the interest of Safety and health are implemented.

Reporting

  • The director of Medical and Allied Health Services reports to Director General of The Hospital as his/her immediate supervisor,
  • The Director General of The Hospital evaluates annual performance of Director of medical and allied Health sciences and his/her monthly Performance Based financing
