Our Accident and Emergency Department is responsible for offering ambulance services, patient reception and triage. The department deals with receiving urgent cases from the hospital’s catchment area, as well as other patients outside the area.

The Pediatrics Department of Ruhango Provincial Hospital provides medical care, treatment, prevention, monitoring, and health promotion services for infants, children, and adolescents (usually from birth up to 15 years of age).
Main role:
Diagnosis and Treatment of Childhood Illnesses
Managing common and complex diseases affecting children such as infections, respiratory illnesses, digestive disorders, and chronic conditions.
Newborn and Infant Care
Monitoring growth and development and providing care for newborn babies.
Preventive Healthcare
Immunization (vaccination), routine health screening, nutritional guidance, and disease prevention.

Neonatology
The Neonatology Department of Ruhango Provincial Hospital provides a comprehensive medical care for newborn babies, especially those who require additional monitoring or treatment during the first days and weeks of life. The department aims to improve survival, health outcomes, and the healthy development of newborns through specialized and timely care.
We provide the following services:
• Care for premature babies – Supporting babies born before full term to grow and develop safely.
• Management of sick newborns – Treating conditions such as infections, breathing difficulties, jaundice, low birth weight, and birth-related complications.
• Newborn resuscitation and stabilization – Providing emergency care immediately after birth whenever needed.
• Monitoring growth and development – Ensuring newborns feed well and achieve healthy developmental progress.
• Temperature and nutritional support – Maintaining body temperature and providing feeding support, including tube feeding when necessary.
• Respiratory support – Assisting newborns with breathing difficulties through oxygen therapy and specialized medical equipment.
• Infection prevention and treatment – Protecting newborns from infections and managing neonatal illnesses.
• Family education and counseling – Guiding parents on newborn care, breastfeeding, hygiene practices, and post-discharge follow-up.
• Coordination with maternity and pediatric services – Ensuring continuity of care from delivery through recovery.
Ophthalmology
The Ophthalmology Service of Ruhango Provincial Hospital is dedicated to the prevention, detection, treatment, and management of eye diseases and vision-related conditions. It delivers specialized care aimed at preserving, restoring, and enhancing patients’ eye health and visual performance. The services provided include:
Eye Examination and Vision Assessment
Evaluating eye health and assessing visual acuity to detect vision problems and eye disorders.
Diagnosis and Treatment of Eye Diseases
Diagnosis of conditions such as infections, cataracts, glaucoma, refractive errors,allergic conjunctivitis and other eye-related disorders.
Preventive Eye Care
Promoting early detection and prevention of eye diseases through regular screening and patient education.
Prescription of Corrective Lenses
Assessing visual needs and prescribing eyeglasses or other corrective solutions when necessary.
